“Technology is a blessing and a curse”
Many of us have probably heard this phrase a few times here and there. In this instance, technology is both a blessing and a curse.
”Ring”, a security camera technology, has helped save many and their loved ones from potential danger, but not so much in this case. A mother was simply trying to set herself at ease while installing a Ring camera into her 8-year-old daughter’s bedroom, come to find out that the camera was hacked by a middle-aged man.
”I did the exact opposite of adding another security measure. I put them at risk and there’s nothing I can do to really ease their mind. I can’t tell them I know who it is. I can’t tell them that they’re not going to show up at our house in the middle of the night” - Ashley LeMay
What was the purpose of a middle-aged man harassing an 8-year-old little girl? Was he doing this for amusement? Empowerment? OR, something worse?
All around us, we can see and hear individuals that are committing some types of harassment in order to please themselves. The Ring security cameras tend to have a good name behind them, but lately more and more of these systems have been getting hacked into. How do we find a good reliable security system, that works efficiently and effectively?
According to the article, when brought to the attention of Ring, the company didn’t have much to say after figuring out that customer cameras were being hacked. Many said that the Ring employees didn’t seem to be very concerned with the facts that their cameras were so easy to hack. Would there be a new system that many don’t know about that would help people really feel safe in their homes?
From devices like Ring and Nest, there are various types of security cameras that families around the world are trying. Will there ever be a security camera that cannot get hacked? If not, then how do we keep ourselves and our families safe if we cannot trust the security cameras that families around the world are trying?
Crime is often happening in all forms and everywhere around us, so keeping everyone around us safe should be our number one priority. With that, ask yourself these three questions if you are trying to figure out how to stay safe:
Are there other options that we can use or do that will keep us safe?
Are we using all available resources that we can in order to keep us safe?
Do we have the necessary safety plans in places in case an emergency does happen?
Keeping yourself and your family prepared for the unexpected can save you or others. Having plans is the best way to make sure that you and your family can and will STAY SAFE TOGETHER!
